Week #10 Winter 2008
It is well known that a number is divisible by 9 if and only if the sum of the digits is divisible by 9. For example, 3+9+6=18 is divisible by 9, and 396 = 9 x 44. Let's introduce the SOD operator as one that sums the digits in a number, so that SOD(396) = 18. With all this in mind, can you determine the value of SOD(SOD(SOD(44444444)))? WSU undergraduates may submit solutions to the Mathematics Department office, 1150 FAB, by noon Tuesday, April 15th. Include your name, ID number, and whether you have completed Math 2030 (or higher). Sorry, no fax or e-mail entries. For information, call 577-2479. |
