THE GREAT
Bubba, Jason and Dellashon, who weigh 195 lbs., 165 lbs. and 90 lbs. respectively, are held captive in the top of a tall tower. With them are Bubba's pet pig, Jason's dog and Dellashon's cat, who weigh 60 lbs., 45 lbs. and 30 lbs. respectively. Outside their window is a pulley with a rope around it and two baskets of equal weight, one at each end of the rope. The length of the rope is such that one basket coming down will raise the other basket just to the height of the window. In the room Bubba finds a 75 lb. weight. Explain how all of the humans and animals can escape if is safe to lower themselves in the basket only if they weigh no more than 15 lbs. more than the contents of the lower basket. The weight can be brought down in any way, but here must be someone at each end to put the animals into and out of the baskets, though they need not be tended to otherwise.
