Frequently Asked Questons
Is there a charge for using the MLRC?
No, the services provided by the MLRC are free for WSU students.
Do I need to set an appointment?
No, the MLRC operates on a first come first serve basis. If there is a
particular tutor that you would like to work with, special arrangements
may be made with that individual tutor.
Is there a limit to the number of times I can use
the services of the MLRC?
No, you are welcome to visit the MLRC as frequently as you wish, but do
not attempt to use the MLRC as a substitute for regular class attendance.
Tutoring is meant as a supplement which helps develop both skill and independence.
Can the MLRC help me prepare for the Proficiency or
Placement Exams?
The MLRC can assist you in reviewing what you have studied fairly recently.
If you have been away from the material for more than a year, a review
course may be recommended. MLRC tutors cannot teach you new material. Click
here to view "What the MLRC Can't Do".
I need additional help. Are there any tutors available
for private tutoring sessions?
The MLRC and the Department of Mathematics maintains a list of people
who are willing to conduct private tutoring sessions. These tutors are
paid directly by the tutee and set their own hourly rates.
Is the MLRC open to everyone?
The MLRC is open to all Wayne State University students, regardless of
rank or major. Those who are not students of WSU should inquire about
private tutoring (see above).
If I have a suggestion or a complaint, whom should I see?
Your comments and suggestions help us to improve our services and we
strongly encourage feedback. A suggestion box is located in the MLRC or
you may send your messages to the Director, Jim Veneri, at veneri@math.wayne.edu
