Thoughts about the course and exams.
- The cuts offs for A's, B's, ... will be based on the difficulity of the exam,
not on the grade distribution.
- I will not give make-ups for the exams. If you have an
actual emergency that keeps you from taking the exam at the scheduled time,
I will need
convincing evidence before I work with you to meet your needs.
Otherwise I will record a 0
-
You may use your textbook; but not your notes nor the student solution
manual. However, if you have not kept up with the homework, you may
not be able to find what you need in the book, nor be able to turn
the pages fast enough.
-
If I had the course to do over again, I would have you but a good
reference book, such as Alan Jeffrey's
Handbook of Mathematical Formulas and Integrals.
-
You may use your calculator during the exam; however you are to
say exactly how you use it.
-
Again, if I had my way I would have your purchase or borrow a calculator
with a
CAS
(Computer Algebra System). A calculator with a CAS can
carry out all of the differentiation and integration problems.
If you want to learn more, see the article in
Wikipedia
on CAS.
