And It Shall Come to Pass

Freda Isaksen

“When I grow up I’m going to build a house behind this house so I can always live next to my mother.”

That was my five-year-old son speaking and how the rest of the family laughed and scorned him because he was the most difficult of the three sons and eventually at age eighteen could not wait for the opportunity to leave home and be on his own and live in the dormitory at college.

Now it’s forty years later, the same son has raised his own family, he has almost reached retirement age and the wish of the five-year-old has become reality.

He believes in the family values his parents tried to teach him, he is presently making arrangements for his widowed mother to come to live in the building next to his home so that he can be near enough to help me and make my life secure.
