The annual Putnam Exam will be help this year on Saturday December 3.
This is a nation-wide competition which is open to essentially all
undergraduates. There is no charge to take this examination. The
emphasis is on problems which require elementary methods but some
originality to be solved. Freshmen and sophomores are especially
encouraged to enter the competition. A brochure describing the exam
will be found outside 1123 FAB. Interested students should either
attend the organizational meeting (Room 1238, FAB, Tuesday 04/Oct/05,
01:00 pm) or contact Leonid Makar-Limanov, 1119 FAB, 577-3169. They
can also leave a message at 577-2479, leave a note in his mailbox at
