The annual Putnam Exam will be held this year on Saturday, December
5. This is a nation-wide competition which is open to essentially
all undergraduates. There is NO CHARGE to take this examination. The
emphasis is on problems which require elementary methods but some
originality to be solved. Freshmen and sophomores are especially
encouraged to enter the competition. A brochure describing the exam
and a copy of last year’s exam will be found outside 1193 FAB.
Interested students should either attend the organizational meeting
which will be Room 1198, Faculty-Administration Bldg. (FAB)
Mathematics Resource Center Friday, Oct 2, 2009 3:00 P.M. or contact
Robert Bruner, 1193 FAB, 313-577-2499 before that meeting. They can
also leave a message at 313-577-2479, leave a note in his mailbox at
the Department, or contact him by e-mail at r.r.bruner@wayne.edu.
