About Changsha City

General introduction: 

Changsha is not only the provincial capital city of Hunan, but also its political, economic, scientific, educational, and financial center as well.  Part of Changsha's fame lies in its closeness to the birthplace of Chairman Mao, who was born in Shaoshan and spent five years studying in the First Hunan Normal School.  In addition, its important 2,100-year old Han Dynasty(206 B.C-221 A.D) excavation has gained attention.

 

Location:

Changsha is located at 110-114E and 27-28N on richly endowed river valley plain in the central part of Hunan Province.  Here is the map showing the position of Changsha:

 

Climate:

Changsha has a moist monsoon climate of the subtropical zone.  The average annual air temperature is 32 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit) and rainfall averages around 1361mm.  The temperature is slightly high in late May and early June.
